This song began as a phrase that was resounding in my head as I was walking around a gathering, feeling so inspired by everyone I met, seeing the Glory of each person in their unique essence. It became a song that is meant to be shared with your loved ones, with people, beings, and circumstances that you meet along your path!

When thinking about how to produce ‘I Am Witness,” I kept hearing deep male voices singing in a Zimbabwean style (made famous by the group Ladysmith Black Mambazo). I wasn’t sure how to go about making a connection with a group who sang in that style, but did some research and found a very talented Zimbabwean group called Insingizi. I contacted them and asked if they would be open to collaborating on the recorded version of this song. They agreed to the collaboration and recorded from their home studio in Austria (where they currently live), sending me their vocal tracks in English and also their native language, IsiNdebele.

I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to consensually collaborate with this group, across oceans and cultures. What a blessing to receive the richness and beauty of their singing style on this song! What started as a song for me to sing to the ones standing in front of me became a song for us to sing to each other back and forth across the globe.
